The wine production in Switzerland

Switzerland produces each year an average of 1,1 million hectolitres of wine, of which a small majority of white wines (51%). The part of red wines is increasing and reaches almost half of the production.

Switzerland's wine-growing surface counts some 15'000 hectares (ha), spread over all the territory, but the three quarters of them are in the French-speaking area. The most important wine-producing cantons are:

Valais 5'136 ha
Vaud 3'851 ha
Geneva 1'288 ha
Ticino 1'036 ha
Zurich 620 ha
Neuchâtel 600 ha
